I remember sitting on the kitchen floor, completely alone except for my dog. My husband had just been arrested. I was shell-shocked and distraught as my phone kept ringing and ringing from the bail-bonds man who wouldn’t stop calling. What was I supposed to do? Who could I ask for help? Who would understand?
This was one horrific night of many that occurred during my 3.5 year marriage to my ex-husband. When I think back on these experiences and wonder how I had the strength to endure and make the necessary changes to improve my life, there is always one scripture that comes to mind.
“And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it. Mosiah 2:41”
This scripture was what kept me going when I felt trapped or lost. I knew that God had given me a promise that if I would keep his commandments, and hold out faithful until the end, I would be blessed in all things. I held my Father to this promise as I tried my best to stay close to Him. As always, He comes through on His promises. He blessed me with the strength to make changes in my life. He blessed me to meet a wonderful, kind, loving man who is now my husband. As bad as things used to be is how good they are now. I owe all of my blessings to the Lord and thank Him every day for the chance to have my faith tested and strengthened through hard times so I can appreciate the good times that much more.
