Welcome to our Sunday Scripture Spotlight, where an exemplary woman shares a scripture that holds special meaning to her and helps her fulfill her purpose with power! These women inspire us, and we hope their words will inspire you.
Today we are spotlighting my friend, Becca Merrill. She is an awesome mom and an example to many. She loves the scriptures, works hard, and is kind to all those around her. Thanks for sharing these scriptures and your thoughts on them today, Becca!
Sometimes things do not go as planned, or something terrible happens that we really didn’t expect and our path changes or our feelings get hurt and relationships with people we love change because of choices they make. Our testimonies are tested. Basically, we are human and we make mistakes and it’s hard and frustrating living in this day and age sometimes. Soooo I usually listen to my scriptures on audio while I am doing my hair and make-up and my baby bathes for the day. Recently, one particular morning, I was overwhelmed with emotion regarding a family member and the choices they had made. These sweet scriptures taught me to apply the atonement for myself, and the atonement is here, because we are going to make mistakes, but we can use the atonement to become better one step at a time.
I was reading in Alma 42, just reading the heading gives me goosebumps… this mortality is our probationary time to become like God.
23: But God ceaseth not to be God, and mercy claimeth the penitent, and mercy cometh because of the atonement; and the atonement bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead; and the resurrection of the dead bringeth back men into the presence of God; and thus they are restored into his presence, to be judged according to their works, according to the law and justice….
30: O my son, I desire that ye should deny the justice of God no more. Do not endeavor to excuse yourself in the least point because of your sins, by denying the justice of God; but do you let the justice of God, and his mercy, and his long-suffering have full sway in your heart; and let it bring you down to the dust in humility.’
It gently reminds us of what this life is all about and why we are really here. I love this chapter because it is so straight forward and explains in a plain and simple way.
